Luke 10: 27: “The man answered, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind. And,love your neighbor as yourself.'”
There are many seniors today who live alone, many times because their spouse has passed away. Such is the case with a minister friend with whom I have kept in contact. He has been a close friend for many years and was a very successful minister. Today, he is living alone in a small apartment. His wife passed away, and as a result of having cataracts, he is unable to drive. His family and friends drive him wherever he has to go and he cooks his own meals. Just recently, I called him and he jokingly said, “I just got back from eating at Tim Horton’s and I don’t have to wash dishes!”
The other day, I talked to a man in a store, and he told me he was a truck driver but couldn’t drive anymore. He had to depend on the bus or take a taxi to do his errands. The bus didn’t operate in his area between 11:30 and 3:00 p.m. and a taxi cost him $10. I spoke to another gentleman who told me he travelled about a mile in his motorized wheelchair. Whenever I get into my car to drive, I think of these men and count my blessings that I am still able to drive.
Is there someone you know who is living alone? Why not give them a call or invite them out for meal.
