Matthew 14: 19-21: “Then he told the people to sit down on the grass. And he took the five loaves and two fish, looked up toward heaven, and asked God’s blessing on the food. Breaking the loaves into pieces, he gave some of the bread and fish to each disciple, and the disciples gave them to the people. They all ate as much as they wanted, and they picked up twelve baskets of leftovers. About five thousand men had eaten from those five loaves, in addition to all the women and children!“
This scripture states that there were 5,000 men present. Most people believe that, with women and children present, the number was possibly 20,000. This is just one of many miracles recorded in the Bible.
George Mueller lived in Bristol, England in the early 1800s. He was a Christian man, who, over many years, ran an orphanage with thousands of boys and girls who were homeless. One time, the noted preacher, Dr. W. B. Gordon from Boston, was visiting Mr. Mueller. They had just toured the orphanage where all the children were asleep in their beds. George Mueller asked Dr. Gordon if he would join him in prayer. Before they prayed, George Mueller said, “Now you have seen all of these children asleep in their beds but we do not have a crust of bread to feed them in the morning.” Dr. Gordon said, “I looked on while George Mueller prayed.” In the morning, there was food to feed the children. Sometimes a bread or milk truck would break down in front of the orphanage and they would give the bread or milk to the orphanage. So for years,
George Mueller ran his orphanage on faith.
