Christmas Gifts

Matthew 2: 11:  “They entered the house where the child and his mother, Mary, were, and they fell down before him and worshipped him.  Then they opened their treasure chests and gave him gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”

I remember when I was pastoring, it was near Christmas, when my phone rang, and it was a neighbour friend.  She said she had an aunt who was visiting her who, every year, gives help to a needy family and would I know of anyone who could use some help.  I told her to give me a day or two and I would inquire if there might be someone.

I was told of a family with four children who could use some help.  The father was dying from cancer.  I called my friend and told her I had found a family who could use some help.  They brought me a number of gifts, for all ages, for the family, all gift wrapped, and gave me money for the mother and father.  I took the wrapped gifts in four garbage bags (so the kids wouldn’t see what I had) and the money in an envelope.

The mother looked in the bags and said, “You kids will never believe what is in these bags”.  They had a tree, all decorated, but there were no gifts under it.  The father died three weeks later.

This year, why not look for someone who can use some help at Christmas.  Your Christmas will be so much better knowing you had helped someone less fortunate.
